Once roaming the American grasslands in huge numbers, Bison came close to extinction due to commercial hunting and slaughter. Today there are a little over half a million bison roaming both public and private lands, with a majority of that number on private land. Bison are being reintroduced to their native range, from Indiana all the way to Chihuahua, MX.
Public land bison hunts are hard to come by, as demand far outstrips supply of permits. But those lucky enough to draw a tag, and even luckier to harvest such an awesome animal, are rewarded with hundreds of pounds of lean, clean, organic protein.
